1 Chronicles 14:13-14, “Then the Philistines once again made a raid on the valley. Therefore David inquired again of God, and God said to him, ‘You shall not go up after them…’”

People of God, each day has its own tests, trials and challenges. You cannot depend on the method you applied to win yesterday’s victory for the battle that awaits you today. In today’s Scripture, we learn that David had won yesterday’s victory by the hand of God after seeking God’s opinion and the Philistines attacked the very same area. But while David did not repeat the same approach to the battle, he repeated the same approach to God – he sought God’s opinion. He didn’t conclude that the guidance he received in the last battle would automatically be the same for the next battle. And indeed, God gave him a different tactic to overcome.

David understood that God gives grace for each day. Don’t think that victory today assures you of victory tomorrow. The fact that you overcame today does not qualify you to overcome tomorrow. If there is an area of your life that is attacked, and by the grace of God you overcome once, it does not mean that you are automatically immune from attacks in that same area. In the same way, the fact that you were right with God yesterday does not guarantee that you are right with God today.

Don’t be overwhelmed and carried away by the success of yesterday – attributing yesterday’s results to your own efforts instead of God’s grace. Be like David who was sensitive to seek God’s direction when the next battle came, even though it was at the same battleground.

Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, help me to depend on Your grace each day. Give me the sensitivity to recognise the need for revelation from You for the present decision. I choose to surrender to Your Will today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
